Seven Term Sanskrit Course for Yoga Practitioners
The Cambridge Sanskrit IGCSE®
We are pleased to announce a new Sanskrit course for Yoga practitioners. It has been especially designed by Sanskrit @ StJames based on considerable experience of teaching children and adults. The course runs for 7 terms of 12 weeks. It starts with the alphabet, progressing step-by-step to IGCSE® level.
The course will be satisfying in itself, but you will be covering material included in the examination so will have the option of taking it at the end. This option is highly recommended both as a means of focussing study and gaining an internationally recognised certificate.
Learn Sanskrit properly and also improve pronunciation
Weekly online classes will consist of one hour language and literature study followed by a short break, then 20 mins oral practice in small break-out groups.
Precise pronunciation of Sanskrit is essential in revealing the inherent beauty and subtle meaning of the language.
Practice will embrace the chanting of Vedic prayers and verses from the Bhagavad Gita, as well as pronunciation of traditional terms including those relevant to yoga theory and practice.
The main teacher and the tutors who will help with the break-out groups are highly experienced and are all well qualified at this level or above.
Connect directly with timeless wisdom
You will learn to read and translate simple stories adapted from the Mahabharata and Ramayana. These stories provide a window into the great epics and lead onto study of extracts from the original texts of the Bhagavad Gita and Hitopadesha. This direct connection through the original Sanskrit can bring a union with ancient wisdom which is not really possible otherwise.
Deepen and enhance your knowledge for yoga teaching and for life!
This course will significantly enhance the ability to study texts such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Upanishads with accuracy, ease, and confidence, and in the case of teachers, it will support and enrich their Yoga teaching. Our courses enable authenticity of practice and experience of depth.
